PRSA Georgia Chapter Awards

PRSA Georgia’s Chapter Awards recognize members at all stages of their careers for public relations excellence and significant contributions to the chapter.

 

Congratulations to the 2017 PRSA Georgia Chapter Award Winners

Shining Star Award
This award recognizes a PRSA Georgia member who has demonstrated leadership within the profession and the Chapter. The nominee must be active in PRSA Georgia and a Chapter member of at least three years. Nominees should have eight to 15 years of experience that excludes internships prior to college graduation or part-time employment.

Mary Newton, APR is the Director of Communications at A.G. Rhodes Health & Rehab, a nonprofit organization that provides senior rehabilitation services, short-term recovery and long-term care at three metro Atlanta nursing homes. Prior to joining A.G. Rhodes in 2013, Mary worked as a Public Affairs Specialist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in its Southeast Regional office in Atlanta, as well as its headquarters office in Washington, D.C. Mary started her communications career more than 13 years ago as a Public Affairs Officer in the U.S. Air Force, and she is a graduate from the Defense Information School. During her time in the military, Mary served at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, a POW/MIA office in Washington, D.C., and as a Social Aide in the White House. Mary is an accredited public relations practitioner with a Master’s degree in Communication from The Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from the University of Georgia.

 

Rising Star Award
This award recognizes a PRSA Georgia member for demonstrated leadership in the profession and contributions to the PRSA Georgia Chapter. The nominee must be a member of PRSA Georgia of at least one year and be active in the Chapter. Nominees should have fewer than seven years of experience that excludes internships prior to college graduation or part-time employment.

Mikey Mooney entered the public relations world in February 2013, when he joined Poston Communications as an intern. Now a senior account executive with the agency, Mikey leads account teams to develop and implement effective communication strategies and identify creative solutions to meet clients’ business development and sales objectives. His clients include top national law firms, consumer and B2B financial services institutions, executive consulting specialists and technology startups.

Mikey has been actively involved with PRSA since beginning his career in public relations. He has served on the PRSA Georgia Annual Conference committee each year since 2015, leading logistics and sponsorship efforts for the 2017 event. He also served on the public relations committee for the 2015 PRSA International Conference in Atlanta.

Mikey is a Double Dawg, earning his bachelor’s degree in advertising and a master’s degree with focuses on advertising and public relations from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia.
