Marketing your Brand: Building Trust, Ensuring Transparency, and Avoiding Communication Traps

Are you prepared for issues that can impact your brand? Communicating with the public, policymakers, or the media in a transparent manner can be daunting. In this session, meet with CDC healthcare communicator Abbigail Tumpey who will discuss examples of lessons learned from healthcare companies and institutions across the country. Abbigail will give examples of communication strategies that have worked, and some that have fallen flat. Participants will learn how to be transparent while building and retaining trust and avoiding common communication traps that can jeopardize your brand.

Speaker: Abbigail Tumpey is the Associate Director for Communications Science at CDC’s Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion where she handles communications for CDC’s healthcare safety issues. She has played a lead role in CDC’s communications during numerous outbreak responses, including the 2012 multistate outbreak of fungal meningitis and the 2014-2015 Ebola outbreak. She was recently named one of 36 Champions of PR by PR Week in their inaugural Hall of Femme.
