The PRSA Georgia family mourns the passing of Ray Crockett, one of our most devoted Chapter members and a role model for our profession. Ray fought cancer as the soldier he was, but couldn’t win this battle. He died Sunday surrounded by his devoted wife, Carolyn, their three sons and their families, and his siblings and their families.

Ray will be missed on many levels. People who came to know him found him to be fair-minded, always thoughtful and smart, and generous with his time. He was popular wherever he worked, and he also had a very dry sense of humor, another true gift for those who knew him well.

An industry leader, he was a passionate volunteer in his active and ‘retired’ years for accreditation, mentoring and the advancement of public relations in the MBA program. He was committed to elevating public relations locally and nationally throughout his 40-year career. He truly had a ‘seat at the table’ before it became a goal in our industry.

His professional life spanned the U.S. Air Force, ITT Aerospace, Lockheed Martin Aeronautical System, and The Coca-Cola Company - both at Minute Maid in Texas and then as director of communications for Coca-Cola North America in Atlanta, the position from which he retired. He also had an active civic life.

We will miss him. Ray’s PRSA family is thinking about his loved ones during this time of grief. We will share details on Ray’s service when they become available. For those wishing to make memorial tributes to Ray, the family has requested donations be made to Homes for Our ( the PRSA Foundation (
