VICTORIA LIGHTFOOT OF THE ATLANTA CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU RECEIVES PRSA GEORGIA’S FEBRUARY CHAPTER CHAMPION AWARD
Victoria Lightfoot is the recipient of the February 2016 Chapter Champion Award from the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) (prsageorgia.org). This award recognizes her dedicated volunteer work for the Georgia chapter.
Lightfoot has served on the Chapter’s College Relations Committee for three years and is the Logistics and Sponsorship Team Lead for the 2016 Real World Collegiate Conference. In addition, she is in her second year as co-chair of the Chapter’s Travel & Tourism Special Interest Group, where she works with her co-chairs to coordinate quarterly luncheons and seminars for local travel and tourism PR professionals.
Lightfoot serves as the public relations specialist for the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, where she is responsible for positioning Atlanta as a top destination for tourists and conventions. Prior to joining the ACVB, she held internships with Hope-Beckham, Inc. and Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. Lightfoot earned her B.A. in Journalism at Georgia State University.
“I decided to become involved with the Georgia Chapter because I wanted to continue my education about the profession beyond college,” Lightfoot said. “The Georgia Chapter has given me the opportunity to test my abilities and learn new skills through my involvement."
Because of this type of volunteerism and commitment, the Georgia Chapter ranks as the second-largest chapter in the nation and has been recognized for its best membership practices among PRSA chapters across the country.
PRSA Georgia (prsageorgia.org), the second-largest local chapter in the national society, consists of more than 900 professionals throughout Georgia. Its mission is to enhance the profession, provide continuing education and offer networking opportunities for its members. The Chapter hosts regular monthly meetings and seminars, an Annual Conference for professionals and an annual Real World PR collegiate conference day.
The Chapter includes eight Special Interest Groups (Corporate and Employee Communications, Healthcare, Independent Counselors, Leader Board, Nonprofit, Technology, Travel and Tourism, and Young Professionals) that meet at various times.
It also supports eight PRSSA (student society) groups at the following colleges: Berry College (Rome), Columbus State University (Columbus), Georgia College & State University (Milledgeville), Georgia State University (Atlanta), Georgia Southern University (Statesboro), Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw), University of Georgia (Athens), and University of West Georgia (Carrollton).
