Sara Freeland, APR, is the PRSA Georgia Chapter Champion for March, recognizing her support for the website committee and her recent role on a panel at the 2023 Annual Conference where she championed the Accreditation in Public Relations process.
“PRSA Georgia has been great for my career. Serving on a committee is a wonderful way to learn about how PRSA works and to meet other PR leaders around the state,” Sara commented. “Getting my APR has been transformational. My background was as a journalist and storyteller. Learning public relations theory and best practices really leveled up my career. I feel like I can confidently speak to the importance of PR on a leadership level and write effective campaigns.”
Sara is a communications director at the University of Georgia where she oversees communications for 20+ units related to UGA instruction. At UGA since 2007, previously, she worked as a PR coordinator for UGA Marketing & Communications. She got her start in journalism and has worked at the Red & Black, MainStreet Newspapers, the Athens-Banner Herald and the Oconee Enterprise.
Sara has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in technical and professional writing from Middle Georgia State University. She was named to PRSA Georgia’s 40 under 40 in 2020 and earned her APR in 2021.
