The Corporate Communications function seeks an experienced and strategic communications professional to join our award-winning, collaborative team as a Manager primarily focused on external communications. The ideal candidate is a proactive team player with excellent writing and presentation skills, strong attention to detail, expertise in executive and corporate communications and experience working with C-Suite leaders (including CEOs) on media opportunities and awards & recognition programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and manage media opportunities, speaking engagements and awards & recognition submissions for Newell’s senior leadership and the company.
  • Develop briefing materials (including talking points) to prepare leaders for media opportunities and speaking engagements.
  • Maintain corporate media list for earned media (including national, local and trade press) and monitor media.
  • Support communications and media strategy for quarterly earnings.
  • Manage corporate LinkedIn account and content.
  • Develop and execute communications to amplify participation in speaking events, awards & recognitions and other corporate initiatives.
  • Manage the Company’s annual Corporate Citizenship Report, which includes working with our external agency, developing a narrative, drafting and editing copy, partnering with stakeholders on content development, managing a timeline and collaborating with our in-house design team.
  • Monitor and share executive and corporate communications trends and hot button issues.
  • Provide on-site support when needed for high-visibility external speaking engagements.
  • Support issues and crisis management efforts.
  • Support various communications initiatives led by the Corporate Communications team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university
  • A minimum of eight years of professional experience in Corporate Communications, ideally in a large/global public company, or an agency role focused on executive, corporate and external communications.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with media effectively and experience in identifying and managing earned media opportunities.
  • Experience working on speaking engagements and a track record of success in developing winning awards & recognition submissions.
  • Poised, mature and professional; experience working with senior leaders.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Understanding of the corporate environment and ability to respond with appropriate urgency to situations that require a quick turnaround. Willing to work outside of normal business hours when necessary.
  • Willing to support other Corporate Communications functions and team members outside of job description when needed.
  • Collaborative team player with a positive, proactive and “can do” attitude.
  • Sense of humor and ability to roll with the punches.
  • Willing and able to travel as necessary (approx. 5-15%)
