Mikey Mooney of Poston Communications Receives PRSA Georgia’s Chapter Champion Award

MIKEY MOONEY OF POSTON COMMUNICATIONS RECEIVES PRSA GEORGIA’S JUNE CHAPTER CHAMPION AWARD

Mikey Mooney is the recipient of the June 2016 Chapter Champion Award from the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) (prsageorgia.org). This award recognizes his dedicated volunteer work for the Georgia chapter.

Mooney has served on the Chapter’s Annual Conference Committee for the past two years. His work with the committee has included assisting with program planning and arranging speakers for the 10th Annual Conference in 2015, as well as soliciting and coordinating sponsorships for this year’s Annual Conference in April. Mooney also served on the Planning Committee for the 2015 PRSA International Conference in Atlanta, handling local media relations efforts.

“When I joined the Georgia Chapter a few years ago, my hope was to network with and learn from this large collective of incredible communications professionals,” said Mooney. “By actually getting involved with the Chapter over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to work directly with some enormously talented people and have grown in my own career more than I could have possibly predicted.”

Mooney is a senior account executive in the Atlanta office of Poston Communications, a PR firm that serves businesses in highly regulated industries. Since joining the agency in February 2013, he has led client teams to develop and implement strategic communications plans for media relations campaigns, corporate rebrands, internal communications, crisis management, building online and social media presence and integrated marketing efforts. His clients include national law firms, tech startups, financial services institutions and other professional services providers. Before joining Poston Communications, Mooney earned his master’s degree from Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia, where he concentrated in public relations and advertising.

Because of this type of volunteerism and commitment, the Georgia Chapter ranks as the second-largest chapter in the nation and has been recognized for its best membership practices among PRSA chapters across the country.

PRSA Georgia (prsageorgia.org), the second-largest local chapter in the national society, consists of more than 900 professionals throughout Georgia. Its mission is to enhance the profession, provide continuing education and offer networking opportunities for its members. The Chapter hosts regular monthly meetings and seminars, an Annual Conference for professionals and an annual Real World PR collegiate conference day.

The Chapter includes eight Special Interest Groups (Corporate and Employee Communications, Healthcare, Independent Counselors, Leader Board, Nonprofit, Technology, Travel and Tourism, and Young Professionals) that meet at various times.

It also supports eight PRSSA (student society) groups at the following colleges:  Berry College (Rome), Columbus State University (Columbus), Georgia College & State University (Milledgeville), Georgia State University (Atlanta), Georgia Southern University (Statesboro), Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw), University of Georgia (Athens), and University of West Georgia (Carrollton).
