Celebrating Our Connections and Successes in 2023

This year brought a consistent return to in-person events for PRSA Georgia and the response from members was a resounding “YES!” While the Chapter continued to leverage virtual opportunities, every month saw at least one and sometimes two events where we could shake hands, hug, share a drink or a meal, and say “it’s great to see you.”

Professional development sessions showcased nuanced perspectives as PR and Communications was viewed through the lens of economic forecasting, civil rights, capital campaigns, and more. There was also an emphasis on everyday ethics and ethical leadership. Of course, there were plenty of media-centric events including a behind the scenes tour of WSB TV and radio and the return of speed media relations known as Pitch-a-palooza. We even experienced déjà vu with the AJC’s new editor-in-chief when the Chapter returned to its long-time, pre-pandemic gathering place of Maggiano’s in Buckhead!

Members also asked for more casual opportunities to connect, and we delivered in 2023. The Chapter held quarterly in-person networking mixers across the metro area – no program, no agendas, just the chance to chat in a low-key setting. We even added a bonus co-sponsored holiday networking event this month with the Atlanta Press Club.

Striving for higher standards remains a goal. The Chapter’s commitment to intentionally apply the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging continued in 2023. While the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee leads the charge, all members are invited to raise their hands, ask questions, and look for ways to include all voices in the conversation.

Advancing people and the profession is a cornerstone of PRSA Georgia as we supported our members on their accreditation journey through our annual Spring and Fall APR Jumpstart Classes.

Chapter leadership also continues to focus on the long-term success and vitality of PRSA Georgia and spent the second half of the year working through a draft of the 2024-2025 Chapter Strategic Plan.

2024 planning is already underway, and everyone is invited to join in for learning, networking, and more. Chapter involvement is a great way to add value to your current professional role, maybe find a new one, and strengthen your PR connections. Here are three easy ways to get started.

  • Sign up for professional development sessions – and invite a colleague! Check out the latest at Calendar | PRSA Georgia
  • Go ahead and gift yourself by registering NOW for the 2024 Annual Conference!

  • Share your ideas on how we can grow, deepen, and expand our connections! Fill out this survey or reach out to Chapter Administrator Victoria Stanton with questions and feedback.

Finally, it’s the members that make the Chapter and it’s always exciting to see how many people sign up for the first time or continue to sign up year after year.
